AREU flew through the skies, looking down on the world as is passed below him. Such a useful ability this was. And yet, the android still felt there was more to learn about this energy thing. The ability to manipulate the energy was all well and good, but there had to be more uses than just this. Almost as if to answer his question, AREU got a strange feeling in the back of his mind. He stopped immediately hovering in place. It was… strange. A sensation the android had never felt before. Like he was somehow vaguely aware of the presence of another entity. But that couldn’t be right, the android had no components that allowed him to feel the life signs of living organisms. He had such devices long ago, but they were scrapped during his rebuilding of his current form. So then, how was this possible?

Following the strange feeling, the android descended down to the earth, landing amidst a small clearing in the forest. There didn’t seem to be anything nearby. So what then? Was he malfunctioning? The idea was not entirely alien, but not an agreeable possibility at all. Yet still, he felt some sort of life energy nearby, however far away it was he did not know. Nor did he know what direction, just that something was there. Then, just as it had came, the sensation vanished without a trace. AREU stood there for a moment, trying to figure out what was happening. This was not at all normal behavior, even for him. Finally deciding this was nothing to worry about, he set off into the air at a calm, and steady pace.

Only a few minutes later AREU felt the sensation again. As if some small life sign was appearing on his internal radar. And yet, he did not have an internal radar system. What then, could be going on? Again the android came down, this time near a small river. The feeling caught his attention, and pulled it towards the river where he saw a multitude of salmon swimming upstream. Almost in confirmation, his internal components registered that these fish were the cause of the sensation, but that did not answer how he could feel their presence. Did his body somehow develop without his knowledge? That wasn’t entirely impossible, true. But the idea of randomly developing a new ability was quite unorthodox. There was no reason or catalyst for this change.

And then it came to him. AREU now understood what had happened. As he himself had developed the use of energy for flight and other uses, he also gained the advantage or understanding energy in living organisms. He had a full comprehension of it, and was now adapting to better gain information on it. The ability to feel life energy around him in a sort of radar system that would alert him to changes in the natural world around him. The catalyst was learning about the use of energy. And the why was simply to further expand his knowledge of the subject. His body was evolving to suit his new needs.

Deciding it would be best to do a full system shut down while his body adapted the new technology, and so he did. AREU’s eyes went dark as his body shut down completely. The now stoic android scientist just standing there like some sort of strange piece of modern art. His internal body and mind hard at work as it began to put together his newest system upgrade device.

Within the dark forest, the android's dim eyes sudden lit up, flashing to life. The few birds that rested on his shoulder flew off, startled by the sudden movement. AREU was awake once again, and ready to coninue his learning of everything possible. With a light kick to the ground, the green man took off. Flying away in search of something new.

I will not back
a step away
from that hoard-guardian.
We two shall end
as fate decrees.
